For Pamelia’s Path, I drew from records about Pamelia Dillin Fergus (born 1824 in upstate New York). At 18, she traveled
with her family to Illinois, married James Fergus, and had three children. In 1855, they moved to Minnesota. By 1860,
James left for the Rocky Mountains, and Pamelia managed alone for four years with four children. In 1864, James sent
gold dust so Pamelia could buy supplies and join a wagon train to Montana, accompanied by her newlywed daughter
and son-in-law.
